Many Inactive Conversion Actions

This account has accumulated many conversion actions that show no recent volume. They exist in Tools & Settings → Measurement → Conversions but have not fired in 30+ days. Inactive actions clutter campaign goal selection, slow down audits, and create the risk that a future engineer wires a new campaign to a long-dead action by mistake.

Why It Matters

Conversion actions accumulate in mature accounts the same way unused variables accumulate in mature GTM containers. From migrations, A/B tests, replaced tracking methods, and abandoned campaigns. The runtime cost is zero, but the operational cost compounds: every new campaign's goal-selection dialog includes the dead actions, every audit takes longer to reason about, and the chance that someone selects a defunct action increases with each one left in place. The check is info-level, but well-governed accounts run quarterly cleanups to keep the list manageable.

How To Fix It

  1. AdLint's details list inactive actions with their last-fired date.
  2. For each: confirm no upcoming campaign depends on it.
  3. Archive (do not delete). Archiving preserves historical reporting context and is reversible.
  4. Make quarterly review of inactive actions part of the team's measurement governance cycle.
  5. Re-run AdLint after the cleanup to confirm the count drops.

Example

Configuration
Inactive conversion actions (no fires in 30+ days): 18 of 47 total
Recommended action: archive 18 after confirming no campaign dependencies.
For Your Client Report

Many inactive Google Ads conversion actions in this account. Google's conversion management documentation, inactive actions add operational friction to campaign goal selection and audit cycles without contributing to current measurement. Fix: archive (not delete) inactive actions after confirming no campaign dependencies, and adopt a quarterly review cadence. Source: support.google.com/google-ads/answer/1722054.
